Collaboration in operational processes

Port of Rotterdam, home to one of the largest global industrial clusters, has dedicated significant effort this year to accelerating digital solutions for our industrial customer. Digitalisation is essential for the future energy system, offering ways to reduce energy costs, enhance reliability and drive the energy transition. It acts as a layer that connects physical assets with social collaboration. We are looking forward to the Starlings pilot in Botlek next year.

We have been working even more intensively with the modalities. You can read more about the progress we have made with the market parties in the rail sector. And about Port Alert: an innovative app that provides real-time information about congestion, disruptions and lead times in container logistics, enabling more efficient planning and improved collaboration between carriers and terminals.

We like to share some examples of projects we have been working on

Global Connect: strengthening connections

Together, we are gaining a better understanding of how we perform in the port and where there is room for improvement. In the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s new corporate strategy, we are fully committed to measurably improving our port performance. We currently already do this with more than 160 parties in the port. If you have any ideas or suggestions for us, we would be happy to hear from you!

When transporting cargo from A to B, ports must provide operational consistency. That requires a global perspective as Rotterdam is just one link in the worldwide network for all chain parties. There is a minimal dataset that is the same for all ports, supplemented with local data for regulations, processes and information needs. These global datasets form the basis for local adjustments and technical standards for data sharing. To make this manageable and ensure impact in Rotterdam, we use a corridor approach for data exchange according to agreed standards.

Port performance: measurable improvements

If you want to improve the port, you must start with understanding that same port. We have invested heavily in that over the past year. By adding a layer of data analytics to the port, we have gained greater insight into our performance. These insights help us, our clients and users of the port to understand and make decisions about efficiency and reducing emissions.

In today's rapidly changing, complex world, we are continuously learning, together with all our partners. We believe that innovative technology, data and digitalisation are essential for the transition we are going through. We would like to take you through the developments of the past year and the lessons we have learnt.
