Improving port performance is a key priority to ensure that increasing container volumes continue to be handled (cost-) effectively and reliably in the port and transported to and from the hinterland. The port is also investing in the sustainability of the entire chain. The expansion of the container terminals is fully CO2 neutral, and the terminals are also investing in shore power installations. Together with market parties, the port of Rotterdam is driving the transition to new fuels for transportation. The industry is on the brink of a system change, where improvements will require multimodal decision-making.
Moreover, there is a lot going on: if there are no significant geopolitical or economic disruptions, our analysts expect the Northwest European container market to grow by 2-3% in the coming years. To facilitate that growth, the port of Rotterdam will expand its container capacity sustainably and within its existing physical footprint. The capacity of the hinterland chain will need to keep pace with the growth in seaside capacity. The development and implementation of smart data solutions, such as the Portbase programs, make an important contribution. The partnerships between the various parties in the supply chain are another important factor.
This magazine is all about an important moment for everyone in the global supply chain: Transport Logistic Munich. In this special edition, entirely dedicated to the global supply chain, you will find a bundle of articles and interviews on the container supply chain running via Rotterdam. This digital publication is designed to keep you, our valued partner, informed about the latest developments.
